Independent Widows

Widows unable to provide for their families and themselves are relying on us to help them. Help us give them a chance to work for stability.

But I trust in your mercy. Grant my heart joy in your salvation. I will sing to the Lord, for he has dealt bountifully with me.

Psalm 13:6

In Port Harcourt, Nigeria, Female widows have no means of surviving on their own. Some Widows are subjected to intense labor in the hands of their brothers-in-laws, who may have taken over the properties of their late brother (the widow's wife); thereby forcing these widows to be destitute and, in some cases, homeless with their children.

They have turned to us for assistance, and we have given them financial support to care for their immediate needs.

Since August 17th, 2021, we are making the initiative to train and employ them - making them "Financially Independent Widows".

Goal

Stage 1

  • Train widows to sell goods in markets
  • Provide them with the hardware and initial inventory needed to run their stores
  • Support them in maintaining and restocking their stores
  • Monitor performance and return on investment

If Stage 1 is successful, proceed to Stage 2

Stage 2

  • Involve more widows and expand employment opportunities
  • Broaden the range of goods they sell
  • Continue monitoring performance and return on investment

If Stage 2 is successful, proceed to the final stage.

Final Stage

  • Provide contingency support for potential commercial hardships that may disrupt sales
  • Monitor outcomes and growth over a longer period (three months to one year)
  • Expand the program to other states or countries where people face similar circumstances.
